Dr. Folder is a great application that allows you to do so by customizing your folder icons in a very easy and fast way. You can run the program both from the shortcut it installs on your desktop, or directly from the Windows contextual menu that appears when you right-click on the desired folder.
With Dr. Folder, you can change your folders' icons not only individually, but also in batches. You can create a folders list and then apply the new icon to it, you also have an option to apply the change even to sub-folders. You can make your customized folders what they call "distributable", which means that their new appearance will be kept even if you copy them to a pen drive, or to another computer. And another option you have is to select an icon and configure it as the new default folder icon, which allows you to change all your system folders' icons in one go.
